Take out a few minutes and savor the latest news digest!

DSC Special:

So, in this week’s DSC special DSC-JGI is going to talk about one of the most interesting and emerging technology in the world i.e. 5G or the 5th generation wireless network. It is the next generation of wireless cellular technology that will provide faster and more reliable communication. It works on significantly lower latency from other G. Each wireless network generation has reflected a significant increase in speed, and by which 5G will push far beyond 4G. Its speed is 10 times the speed of the 4G network. For now, the speed in the present scenario is up to 2–3 Gbps which is predicted to be 10Gbps in the future as the network grows.

5G network is a revolution in itself that promises change in all aspects of life. The speed 5G network offers will help us connect through online platforms without any delays and failures. Such a network will enable a massive improvement in remote healthcare technology, enable Self-driving cars, automating or managing public transportation, open up new possibilities for drone technology and also make home broadband users happier as the speed will increase by three times. In the future, remote education will become easier as 5G will enhance the virtual reality experience and will provide remote education in better quality videos. In conclusion, I can say, as the 5G networks grow it will have a major role in our lives to simplify our problems with safety, time-consumption, and connecting with others without any issue.

Technical

The world as we know it is changing at a rapid pace. Here are some of the trending topics on emerging technologies from the last week:

  • Gmail, YouTube, Google Docs, and other Google services hit by a massive outage, Here’s why:

Google services, including Gmail, YouTube, Drive, Docs, Meet, and Duo, suffered a global outage for a brief period on Monday. The Google outage affected users worldwide, including India, the US, Western Europe, Australia, and others. Google’s preliminary assessment blames a glitch in identity management for the outage. — Read More

  • ISRO set to launch satellite CMS-01, improve telecom coverage for Indian islands:

The polar satellite launch vehicle’s 52nd mission is scheduled for lift-off at 15.41 hours on Thursday from Sriharikota. CMS-01 is the 42nd communication satellite of the space agency and it is envisaged for providing services in Extended-C Band of the frequency spectrum covering India, Andaman and Nicobar, and Lakshadweep islands. — Read More

  • Walmart expands self-driving program with fully driverless vehicles:

Walmart announced that it will begin using fully driverless trucks in Arkansas next year as it expands its autonomous vehicle pilot program with Gatik. — Read More

  • Australia sues Facebook over user data, echoing U.S. antitrust case:

The lawsuit echoes a landmark U.S. Federal Trade Commission action accusing the social media giant of inappropriately maintaining market dominance by using customer data to decide on takeover targets including messaging app Whatsapp and image-sharing app Instagram. — Read More

Computer Science

To help you stay updated with new developments in the field of computer science. Here are some of the popular headlines from the last week:

  • Researchers uncover blind spots at the intersection of AI and neuroscience:

Is it possible to read a person’s mind by analyzing the electric signals from the brain? The answer may be much more complex than most people think. — Read More

  • To the brain, reading computer code is not the same as reading language:

Neuroscientists have found reading computer code does not rely on the regions of the brain involved in language processing. Instead, it activates the ‘multiple demand network,’ which is also recruited for complex cognitive tasks such as solving math problems or crossword puzzles. — Read More

  • Atom-thin transistor uses half the voltage of common semiconductors, boosts current density:

Researchers report a new, two-dimensional transistor made of graphene and molybdenum disulfide that needs less voltage and can handle more current than today’s semiconductors. — Read More

  • Optical pre-processing makes computer vision more robust and energy-efficient:

Image analysis is ubiquitous in contemporary technology: from medical diagnostics to autonomous vehicles to facial recognition. Computers that use deep-learning convolutional neural networks — layers of algorithms that process. — Read More

  • Faster and more efficient information transfer:

Physicists use antiferromagnetic rust to carry information over long distances at room temperature. — Read More

  • Accurate neural network computer vision without the ‘black box:

New research offers clues to what goes on inside the minds of machines as they learn to see. Instead of attempting to account for a neural network’s decision-making on a post hoc basis, their method shows how the network learns along the way, by revealing how much the network calls to mind different concepts to help decipher what it sees as the image travels through successive layers. — Read More
